This site is designed with the idea in mind that information and preparation are essential to making your transition to the north as smooth as possible. It is intended to prepare you as much as possible before you arrive in your community, and is intended to be an honest reflection of the teaching and living situation Nunavut.

This material is the result of a partnership established between the Federation of Nunavut Teachers - Curriculum Committee, the Nunavut Department of Education Curriculum and School Services Division and the Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and Qikiqtani School Operations offices. Thank you to Lou Budgell, (past President of the Federation of Nunavut Teachers) Jimmy Jaquard, President of the Nunavut Teacher's Association; Peter Geikie, Assistant Deputy Minister of Education; Cathy McGregor, Director of Curriculum & School Services; Millie Kuliktana, Executive Director of Kitikmeot School Operations; and Marg Joyce, Superintendent of Schools for the Kitikmeot School Operations.

Thank you to Gord Billard, Nancy Hobeika, Margaret Joyce and Dr. Vincent Chan for sharing your photos.

A special thank you goes to Denise Cooper, whose initial guidance and suggestions helped to initiate this project two years ago.

Finally, this project would not have been possible without the contributors in each community:

In the Kitikmeot:
Brenda Illaszewicz - Cambridge Bay
Edie Carlson - Gjoa Haven
Kelly Corkish - Kugaaruk
Michelle Buchan - Kugluktuk
Phyllis Dinham and Peter Worden - Taloyoak

Thank you All for your hard work and effort in gathering and updating this information.
